You will see I have attached a couple of photographs and am sure you will agree it's pretty diabolical and potentially dangerous - especially at the minute with the potential for freezing. It's simply due to blocked drains - on that whole stretch of road there is only one functioning drain. We have tried to clear the drains ourselves (as we know others have) , but they are blocked too far down and need serious attention. It's due to the heavy agricultural traffic we had to deal with throughout last year due to potatoes being planted at Hatherton Lodge farm and the complete disregard for the legally required clean up. I have attached a photo we took in October showing the mess that was left. The photo shows a tractor following two enormous potato harvesters down the lane. Malcolm Harrison Farms, (based at Doddington) grew the potatoes on Hatherton Lodge Farm land, we tried several times to contact them to complain and ask that the mess be cleared up but were not successful. "Following our chats recently and our and our neighbours increasing frustration at the situation. We have submitted a formal request to Cheshire East Highways. The reference number is as below. 3426642 We have explained that the drain was broken by their engineers during their engineering works that allowed the water to flow through to the fields to the south and that this was confirmed by their own engineer. That these pipes were damaged. This has stopped the flow of water as it was and also means that the road now drains to our field. That this has caused standing water on our field in areas that have not been flooded before and caused an increased water table for over 18 months that is still refusing to drain. The drainage from this gulley runs northwest to drop into a 9" drain across the A529 emerging in a ditch on the east side of the road. There is a blockage in the pipe from this gulley approximately 14m north of the grid (as measured by drain rods). As a result, the road drainage is backing up to gulley #790048557 '48558' which is connected to a pond on our land. This pond is now overfull and the water is high enough to affect the foundations of our house. Normally, the pond acts as a buffer storage after heavy rain and then drops down to the same level as the road drainage but this buffer is no longer available and road flooding is likely. A new access hardcore laid road has just been constructed to tend Helers fields which is now rented out to Thomassons of Worleston who has now upwards of 3000 acres of maize to harvest imminently. The access onto Bridgemere Lane is very tight with zero visibility splays either left or right. I parked my car on the verge to protect it whilst the construction HGVs and Tractor units where unloading their hardcore. I was asked to move it as the HGVs could not get in or out without going over the verge. The farm tractor and trailer unit just managed to drive in and out staying on the road. The verge damage here has only recently been badly damaged since the tenant farmer has taken over. I acquired 5 roadside cones previously discarded in hedgerows locally and placed them just off the verge in the hope of keeping the farm tractor and trailer units on the road and driving safer when entering and exiting Bridgemere Lane. | Action: Update 03/10/2023: issue reported to Cheshire East. The drains and gullies on this stretch of Hunsterson Road are all blocked and have been since the potato harvesting from Hatherton Lodge Farm. Contractors refused to clean the road during these operations in November/ December. Since then, every time it rains, there is standing water on the road with has not fully dispersed in between rainfall incidents. There is a road drain from gully marked 1 on my map through 2 and 3 and then dropping to a deeper 9" pipe across the road to a ditch. Periodically, the last section from 3 to the drop point blocks and when it does, the water backs up into our pond. After the recent heavy rain, the overflow was such that it flooded around our house and into out utility room. The pipe from Gully '48473' to the drop point was jetted very effectively about 18 months ago and then the drain ran freely until this winter. I suspect there is a partial blockage and that leaves have then almost completely blocked this. I have tried rodding the drain but without success. At the moment, I cannot let the excess water out of our pond as it will flood the house again so I have stopped the outflow temporarily. There is no lack of flow in the pipe across the road to the ditch (although the ditch needs cleaning out).
